EXTERNAL RESEARCHERS

The functions of the Institute of Fiscal Studies include encouraging and publishing research and studies relating to Public Economics. To this end, the Institute finances research in its main lines of work in the fields of tax studies, budgets and public spending, and financial and tax law.

Since 2009 there has been a permanently open competition for research projects. Although the competition is open, the Institute of Fiscal Studies regularly publishes other competitions for specific lines of research in the three fields mentioned which may be of priority interest for the State Secretariat for Taxation and Budget and the Institute itself.

Each researcher or team of researchers can present a single application, which cannot be for more than 12,000 euros. These projects cannot be applied for by researchers who have received funding in the year before presenting the application. Applications must use the standard forms provided by the Institute of Fiscal Studies. Each application must be accompanied by the curriculum vitae of all the members of the research team. Applications should be sent by email to investigaciones@ief.minhap.es.

The applications will be studied by a research committee of the Institute of Fiscal Studies, which will meet regularly to examine the proposals presented and the reports by anonymous assessors.

The Institute of Fiscal Studies reserves the right to publish the work for two years after its final delivery. Meanwhile, the authors undertake to create a version of the results of the research for possible inclusion in the collection of Research Papers or Research Documents published by the Institute of Fiscal Studies, and must request in writing the authorisation of the Institute of Fiscal Studies before publishing the research work in any other medium than those mentioned above. In such cases, the research work will mention that it was funded by the Institute of Fiscal Studies. They also undertake to accept an invitation from the Institute of Fiscal Studies, if invited to participate in one of its seminars in order to explain the results obtained in the research.
