Since 1995, the Institute of Fiscal Studies has maintained a Fiscal Barometer designed to analyse the evolution of the opinions of Spaniards on fiscal matters. This barometer is based on the data of a yearly survey using personal interviews of a random sample of 1,500 Spaniards in five segments (business owners, farmers, professionals, employees and the unemployed) selected by quotas for habitat, gender, age, educational level and socio-economic category. The variables studied refer to subjects such as the perception of the relationship between taxes paid and services or provisions received, opinions about fiscal compliance and fraud, and the image of the Inland Revenue as an institution. Each year also includes a specific block of variables in order to research a subject of current interest. The results of these surveys are published in the series Documentos del IEF with the title: “Opinions and attitudes of Spaniards on taxes”.
in order to meet the goal of transparency in information and encouraging research, the Institute of Fiscal Studies makes available to researchers and any user interested in fiscal surveys, a combined matrix of the last six editions of the IEF Fiscal Barometer.
